: is this normal for goodmark qtrs?
lugnutz Dec 3rd, 03, 9:48 PM I've done a couple autobody projects back in the day, but never installed new quarter panels. Today my new goodmark qtrs arrived, and at first glance they looked great. Fit to the existing body contour is perfect - absolutely no problems there... but in each of the two panels there are several small dents/dings. In the passenger qtr, there is actually a sort of a ripple in the back where the body contour turns down. The driver side qtr has a noticeable high spot. Anyway, is this normal to have dents/dings in new qtrs, or should I expect replacements?
Thanks for any input,
jC.
YenkoChevelle69 Dec 3rd, 03, 10:31 PM You shouldn't expect perfection,b/c all panels will need SOME work, however they should not be beaten to P!$$ either.
sevt_chevelle Dec 4th, 03, 7:08 PM Its very normal to get panels with damage. Am not talking major dents, creases etc, am talking small little dings.
I work in a production collosion shop and recieve BRAND NEW OEM parts with damage on a weekly basis that we repair instead of getting replacements. HELL Ive even got parts that have been PRE PAINTED for me  Now those we dont keep, but shops just cant afford to sit there and wait for new parts when it might take ya 1-2hr to fix the damage.
So yes some damage SHOULD be expected. How you going to guarantee that your replacements wont have damage either, unless you HAND PICK and bring back home yourself?
lugnutz Dec 4th, 03, 9:06 PM Thanks for the input guys... guess I'll work the qtrs I got. In all fairness, all the other parts I got from goodmark look great, and the speed with which everything arrived (less than a week, even with Thanksgiving holiday in the middle) makes the overall experience a positive one. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

ACES-70 Dec 4th, 03, 10:20 PM I have never had a panel that DIDNT need some smoothing out one place or another,,,, keep the ones you have,, next batch could be worse
WayneK Dec 7th, 03, 7:42 PM Hi, By your signature I am assuming your talking about your, the goodmark 1/4's are not Full 1/4's but 1/4 skins.. as said B-4 by the gang, a large percentage of the time, most "NEW" panels come with dings and pop .. if you have the 1/4 skins there prone to be freindly ( wavy ) out of the box ... I have put on a number of these guys and they all need a full skim coat of Mud.. as for the wrinkles around outer corner, door flang and bumper buldge area are common...
There 70-72 full 1/4 don't seem to have these
problems...
wes migletz Dec 9th, 03, 5:09 PM My badmark 1/4 quarter skin arrived with a fist sized dent, right on the bodyline. The shipping container was undamaged. FWIW
70isfine Dec 9th, 03, 5:29 PM Did you buy it directly from Goodmark? Did you check it before signing like it tells you to in huge letters on the package and invoice? I have bought several large items directly from Goodmark, like Hoods, door shells, fenders, everyone has been packed great and had no damage. If it has damage your not supposed to accept it. If you don't check it before you sign for it its your own fault. :(
lugnutz Dec 9th, 03, 5:42 PM I can't speak for Wes, but mine arrived with the box in perfect condition. I gave the panels a quick glance before sending the driver on his way. It wasn't until I got them home in my garage with tons of flourescent light that I started to see the blems. No problem here though, after looking at several great install pages, I've decided to use only about the bottom 3/4 of the skins that I bought (and in a few inches from the frt and rear sides as well), and that section is just about perfect on both panels. (and yes, these came direct from Goodmark)

70isfine Dec 9th, 03, 9:13 PM Lug your quarters skins sound about normal, Always going to have some imperfections that need to be tweaked, ripples that need to be blocked ect. I was really directing my last question to Wes. graemlins/beers.gif
