how do you straigten sheet metal? I found an old car in the middle of a field and all I know is that it's a GM cowl tag 8180. I found it demolished in multiple acreage and it's been there for some 30 yrs. with lord knows how many cows trampling all over it. any way it looks like aluminum foil and was wondering how to straigten it some, it don't gotta be show quality I'm just seeing what can be done with it http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

You don't mention if it' a hood or what, but if it's a single layer of sheetmetal, then lots and lots of hammer and dolly work is ahead for you. Oh and if you want to cheat.......bondo. I've been known to use some to get a smoother finish.

Any car past 1972 is just simply transportation, really!

hate to break the news to you but if its a hood that looks like aluminum foil the best thing you could do is put it back where you got it its not worth the time to even try to fix it if its a cowl hood you cant even access the whole top layer of metal to hammer and dolly it

The only way to straighten a hood that is wrinkled is to THROW it STRAIGHT!!! in the to garbage and buy a new one.

well, it's a single layer of steel (trunk lid) that I have welded to the quarters, don't think I'll bolt the fenders back on though. it has the basic shape but where do you get a hammer and dolly set? harbor frieght? how much? any tips on techniques?
