Hey again to all,
Is there any 10 sec or quicker Elcamino guys racin this year and if so, can you contact we if (and only if) YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHISSISED CAR.
I need some info from past runners of these sledes to help guide my car to be the best it can be. Hope to hear from someone!!!
Thanks

i have a 1979 elk i am running a 468 BB chevy 12 bolt rear 411 with a turbo 4oo. i have 275 60 15 on rear with very soft springs. and a long pinion snubber. the cars pulls straight and hook well. but not much of a sleeper in the small g body. i had to run a 4 inch cowl hood for the clearence problem.

John, you would probably get more response in the performance forum, rather than here.

In about a month I'll know if I meet your criteria - my combo should be all dialed in by the time Super Chevy comes to Pomona.

I'll presume that by "CHISSISED" you mean tubbed - but I'll let you explain what you mean.

Why limit the exchange of info, just tell us what you have so far, and what plans you might have. Include: year, weight, current engine trans and suspension setup. Also, what times you have run so far including your incremental times like 60' etc.

Hey Thomas,

Sorry about the spelling on the site, chassis, better smile.gif ok, cool ;) as far as the chassis stuff goes, a chassied car to me is a prostock look a like, got it?, a back halfed car to me is just a back half, period, that does not change the whole chassis, something I would like to do some day, a complete new chassis, tube of course, still waiting on the money tree to move!!!

I will take the good advice and switch over to the performance section, just checking the waters for up & coming elkys that may end up next to me in the lanes.

Well Thomas, sounds like your on your way to being fast!, but I have not run my car yet with all the new combos in it now, are you ready?
ok, for starters,it is a 72 Elcamino SS look a like, in the grill area only, it WAS a 350/350 combo with a 10 bolt 1 wheeler @ 3605 total curb weight with gm ralleys and the batt. up front, well, a few things have changed so listen up, it now has a BBC 454, yeah, I know, only a 454?, purpose built car here so let me finish smile.gif it has 13:5:1 comp. with the big oval port heads, 2:19/1:88 valves and much work done to the chambers, runners and valve train. Msd crank trigger, dist. wires and 7AL box too, A mech. cam from crane, yeah, I know, Crane? and it's in the lower .600 lift range, not much here for now, but the 496 gets a bigger one!!!!,that's the next bullet when this one lets go. 4 bolt block with some of the good bells & whistles on it, currently an 830 Holley but that is getting upgraded to a 900cfmer. Single plenum Wiend oval port man. matched and flowed to the heads.
A glide trans is being used with a brake, remember, purpose built here, with a JW 9 in. 4800-5000 stall conv. and a punney 12 bolt with a Strange spool, Moser axles and also, a 4:10 gear set. Wilwood disc brakes are coming, if they ever get here, can you push Wilwood for me a little?, thanks,
The tubes are welded into the center section and c-clips a must here. Shocks are the QA1 style with stock springs, yep, the air bags can come out now!!!!, also, I have a drag race rear adj. sway bar which is bitchin right now for body control and even tire planting. I have made chrome moly trailing arms with rod ends on the uppers & lowers and the no-hop hardware on top to give me some more dig, no pinion snubber for me, new support bars are coming to for the upper rear frame supports.
A new drive shaft is coming soon, now the front.

After much reading and being tired of seeing GM front suspensions all out of shape due to the geometry the engineers had back then, I changed the upper A-arms to tubular and added the bigger brakes off an F-body. This enclosed bigger rotors, different spindles and got rid of most of the GM goofy geometry, now my wheels are straight, even off the ground!!!, cool, I'd say, anyway, Moroso front drag springs cut 1/2 coil out and new poly bushings everywhere I could put one, well, almost everywhere! I have Comp. Engin. 3 way shocks up front and new QA1's and coil spring setup is next, when the money tree shakes again that is.

Alum. body mounts front to rear and a drive shaft loop that hits the yoke, another go figure, I will move it when the new shaft arrives.
Stock dash and 1 race seat, a 12 point cage with window net and a B & M pro stick with line lock and t-brake button. The cage is being re-done after the season due to the moran that put it in, it's ugly but functional, and not done yet, more to add here.

The car has lots of E-bay parts on it to help cut some costs, the radiator went flyin for a Griffin alum. with twin fans, Moroso elect. belt drive for the H2o pump and alum. fuel line to the rear. All inner fenders are gone and the a/c too, darn could have used that this year on those hot days down south!!!!, hot gas is used 107 and up.
Wheels & tires, Whoossss your daddy dude, Hoosiers @ all 4 corners with welds inside the tires, 29x11.5 rear, 28x4 fronts. A 4 in Harwood cowl hood sits nicely atop the fenders and really enhances the look of the elkys, heck, any car for that matter!, all the small gauges are in the cowl for me to see, looks cool to, nice and clean interior.

Now the good stuff, the car now weighs 3385lbs. race weight, without me, add 200 and that's my total, time for a plastic bumper, alum. heads and glass fenders too, heck, mights as well chassis the darn thing then! The battery is in the bed and the 5gal. fuel cell is very close to it. Elect. pump and filter move the go juice to the front. Lexan windows and a new Flaming river rack and steering column is next if the cash holds out, waiting on my sponsor money!!!

Ok, Thomas, this car is a purposr built car and it is designed to say, "SEE YA LATER" @ the tree, I know you are probably saying, this guys nuts, well, it works on cars in Michigan, so I am going for it, with the small tire, I don't have much choice. It will leave around 2500-3500 rpm of the t-brake and shft @ 6800 @ around 125-135 mph, if all stays together. Should trap out @ 7000 or there abouts +/- a few mph's.
No violent launches here, just a nice launch and lots of mph for the other guy to get nervous about. Should run mid to low 10" but time will tell right. If you send me your e-mail address, I can send some pics and you can critique it for me.
I am signed up to run the Edelbrock Pro series, in the Open Comp class, hopeing to cook a few butt stangs if poss. Lots of them out now and tough to beat too.
So, there you have it, input is welcome just not too much sarcasim ok?, cool. Enjoy Thomas and send me an address to mail pics too.
Thanks for the reply also and good luck this year, send ME some pics too if you have any.
