I've done a lot of things by myself,,, Build motors, a rear end, complete front end...yada yada,,, but man I put a hood on by myself on my 67 Chevelle and it was a (little) funny. I mean by myself without scratching anything. It was a challenge,, Maybe I was already tired from the 12hr shift I did today, then I pulled the motor, but still it was crazy.
Just wanted my fellow Chevelle friends to laugh with or at me..HeHe

I've done it myself. I do just about everything myself, because it's easier than asking the lovely wife to help :)

Just put the hood on my sons 74 nova last week by myself. It was not fun. Last year I pulled the hood off of my 76 monte myself. That was PAINFULL!!

Oh come on. I take off and put back on the 4" Cowl Induction Fiberglass hood on my Mustang all by myself. :)

I wouldn't attempt the hood on my Chevelle. All steel domed hood...no thanks.

I've done it myself on many cars many years ago. MANY years ago. Nowadays I sit in a chair and watch someone else do it. :)

Yes, I ahve done this solo, and it was not easy to do it without trashing the hood and the car. The worst one was the hood on my '51 Henry J, as it had a spear-like hood ornament that nearly skewered me all the way thru.

My first car was a 77, and I could barely RAISE the hood. I couldn't imagine trying to put it on by myself. :)

I wish I still had that car...

Funny thing is..... I pulled the engine/tranny out of the '51 sedan delivery WITHOUT pulling the hood.....
The only thing I pulled out was the radiator!

Or a -76 GMC pickup truck. I just did that, and man is that hood heavy. To make it even worse it happened to be a 4x4, and lifting, holding and removing the screws at the same time and at that height was no fun at all... Good thing is that the truck is going to the junk yard, so I don't have to put the hood back on again.

ive done it myself, it just takes creative use of 2x4 blocks and props...and unlike andy who says its easer to do it yourself than ask the wife....i find it easier to do things myself than when she says "yes" and actually tries to help, thats when the difficulty truly begins

I cant imagine putting a hood on by myself. Not to mention trying to do it without scratching the paint.

Been there, done that...not much fun. But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Head and shoulders were really sore when I got through!

I use to do Diesel conversions on Cadillacs in the 1980's, I pulled those hoods all the time by myself damn are they heavy well until you get one with an aluminum hood, that hood damn near went through the roof. :clonk:

Reminds of the time I went to take the 5 spoke "american torque thrust d's" off the Sunoco Corvette (yes the one that won 12 hours of Sebring in 1966) when doing the restoration, turns out they were Ansens which are magnesium. I did the stretches to ready for myself to life those heavy freakin wheels they were 10" wide (some in the past had flaired the body) so I just knew those things were going to back breakers, it is really amazing how light Magesium is to aluminum, I fell over from throwing myself off balance I picked them up so high.

I use a cut broom handle and two thick towels to do this by myself! But I marked my hinges fit years ago with a scratch awe so that I could fit it back stock after I removed it the first time.

Hard, hard, hard!!

And I kept my SS hood up-side-down on the top of my car on a thick blanket to protect it so double hard handling it!!!

I honestly figure that my back is too old to man-handle it again now!!!!!
