I am looking to put Power Windows and Power Door Locks in my 1965 Chevelle. I have a few questions.

There are only a few posts on Power Windows on these forums. The most informative was Dale's Great Pumpkin post where we see the mechanisms. Man I have always loved that car.

I have a couple questions...

1) If you leave the original cranks on on the Power Window Kit from say AutoLoc (don't plug the holes), does it turn the cranks when you use the switches. i.e. you see the original window cranks spinning when you
hit the button? I know that Dale used the Spal ones and there have been a few good reviews from users on the Deluxe Window Kit found here (http://www.spal-usa.com/). I just wish their description was better and had a larger picture.

2) I was thinking on leaving the cranks on all four windows to have that stock look. Then I could control all the windows from my seat. And if someone wanted to roll down their window, they could crank it themselves. Or would this strip out the power window motor or mechanisms?

2) I have not seen any posts about a '65 in particular. I am assuming any universal or flat window kit will work. Is this true?

3) Will this work on the rear windows on a '65 Chevelle? This is the main reason I want the Power Windows because I take my dog everywhere I drive and I can't see me leaning over and wrenching my back every time to roll down his window.

4) When I eventually add an alarm, can I just tie my key less entree system into the alarm so I don't have to Carry around 2 remotes?

5) If going for Power Windows and Power Door Locks, would it be best to do it all at once?

Thanks

I have installed P/W in my 67 SS from a 66 Skylark and put a P/W kit from Spal kit in my 65 V-8 Corvair. I'm no expert but I'll try to answer your questions.
1. Not familar w/ AutoLoc so I can't say if the cranks still spin. The Spal kit is good IMHO. Installed all 4 windows in a couple hours.

2. Probably can't leave the cranks on and if you did, how would you control all 4 windows with just one crank on your door?
2A. Did any GM A bodies have P/Ws? If so, thats where I'd look first. The Spal kit will work on your car.

3. Yes

4. Don't know

5. I'd do both while your in there and adding wires to the doors and stringing them though out the car.

I was planning on making some custom switches to control all 4 windows on the center console to keep the cab looking stock. Plus I don't want to be cutting holes all over the door panels.

I wonder what the deal is with the holes from the cranks. Is it just an unsightly hole, or does the switch fit there?

You mean look through a junk yard first for a kit that matches my ride year body style and then if I can't get it opt for the Spal or Autoloc? Or did you mean something else?

Thank you

Unless I'm mistaken, all window switches mount to the door panel where the window crank goes. So if you add power windows, it might be odd to keep the crank handles. I know that there are switches that utilize a window crank handle to operate, generally for street rods. Check out Parr or similar companies, or buy a good street rod magazine and check out the ads.
