Will a turbo 400 crossmember out of a 68-72 chevelle fit in a 66 chevelle. Have a turbo 350 in it and changing to a turbo 400.

Just use your 66 crossmember... you will have to move it back some.

when i swapped a 400 into my 66 . just moving it back would not work for me. i ground the tranny mount off it at the welds and switched to the back of the xmember and rewelded it. i had to enlongate the hole alittle more, but it bolts up in the factory holes in the frame. my tranny yolk was really close to the tranny tunnel, so when i switched it to the back i also dropped it about 1/8 of a inch. i'm using moroso solid motor mounts and a poly tranny mount. i'm not saying just moving it back won't work . i was told the same thing here by more than one person, but for some reason it would not work for me . my car is factory 396 4 spd, but had a th 350 in it when i got it.

We have not taken the turbo 350 out yet to try the 400 with the crossmember. We were told the 350 crossmember was lower where the bolts go through and into the tranny mount. But we will try it with the 350 crossmember.

Find my post Feb 10th 2006 there is a couple underside pics...I did not have a problem moving crossmember back, although I used stock type mounts. I have also heard other folks have had problems also with the trans tunnel area. Plenty of room under my cars 65 and 66 Chevelles with TH400s.
