Hi all, I was reading a thread a while back where people were debating the merits of Super Chevy and CHP... It looked like the overall consensus was that Super Chevy had gone to much with just showing car show thumbnails and trailer queens. Where as Chevy High Performance has gone to high $$$ modifications and parts.

Now being the delightfully white trash man that I am, I am all about getting things done on the cheap. However at the same time doing a quality job.

I really enjoy my subscription to Car Craft and from time to time pick up Muscle Car Review or Super Chevy if it has a good article and walk through on something that I can achieve. More often than not I have found Super Chevy to be mostly eye candy with to many ads.

Now my question is, which magazine/magazines do you recommend for someone who has some restoring work to do on their car, yet not a big budget. A DIY magazine for those that aren't building a numbers matching Z-16?

What magazines do you subscribe to and why?

Thank you as always.

As far as a magazine for restoring a car, there is no magazine that has as much to offer as this website. We have almost 10 years worth of old threads for you to search. If you cant find it by searching, 99% of the time if you start a thread you will get the answers you need, or at least pointed in the right direction.

Super Chevy has had some helpful articles recently about building a SB, but I think one of the "how to rebuild your SB/BB chevy" books would be much closer to what youre looking for.

got that right. I learned as much from this site, particularly in the body and electrical sections when I was building my car than I have from 40 years of reading car magazines.

I agree, I have learned much during the years of looking over these threads. And even more so since I have spent the last two weeks searching and reading in prep for buying my car. We're talking hours and hours a day. Let's just say I have woke up a couple times with keyboard prints on my cheek :-)

I really liked the CHP/Hot Rod book "Chevelle / ElCo Handbook. Sometimes it is nice to have some pictures along with the text.

I really like Car Craft, are there no mags like that they cater to someone like me, or should I just stick with that?

Thanks, and I love this site.

Hi all, ....

What magazines do you subscribe to and why?

Thank you as always.

Well, I've been reading and subscribing to "hot rod magazines" since about 1958. The only one I read now, and subscribe to, is MOPAR Action.

I had a subscription to one of the all-Chevy mags a while back, but the stuff got out of touch with reality for what a regular guy could afford, plus increasingly the sophomoric vulgarity turned me off. MOPAR Action has a really excellent hands-on tech editor. Excellent articles and stuff I could use. Check it out; if only to see what the competition is getting from their magazines...
