I ahve a 69 chevelle that I want to paint. Can anyone tell me what the cost of paint is. DOes it come in quarts? How many do you need to paint a whole car. I know you need to buy clear coat is there anything else. What would be the cost for buying all these things.

Whew! I assume you have everything else handeled like primer and prep? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
We'll just cut to the chase then. If you're going to go with a base coat/ Clear coat system, the amount of base color will be dependent on what color it is? Do you have a vinyl top? Are you painting a color change to include jambs, trunk? So, anywhere from 2 qts. to a gallon. Clear coat - Just get a gallon. It's more cost effective regardless. Plus reducers, thinners hardeners can cost $300 to $400, again depending on color, etc. Red is always the most expensive. If you're planning on a solid color (No metallic or pearls) I strongly suggest a single stage urethane. It's cheaper without clear and it looks just as good or better than BC/CC, again, depending on color.

Painted my Malibu two years ago and spent about 450 dollars on materials. This included stripper, steel wool, sandpaper, body filler, 1 gallon of urethane primer(and catalyst), 1 gallon of PPG acrylic enamel (with hardener), and various reducers and cleaners. Oh, yeah, also, masking tape and paper. The color is Forrest Green Metallic and can be seen at my web site. That picture was taken last September, a year after painting it.
