I was final wet sanding my 66 and noticed small areas where the primer was cracked on the pillar post cover on the drivers side. Started picking at it with my finger nail and ended up peeling all the primer off in about 1" X 4" strips. No adhesion between primer and bare metal. Wash primer was used over clean bare metal. PPG 271 was used over wash primer. The 271 was pretty thick. My question is this, could the cover be galvanized or coated that would cause the wash primer not to bite, or would the thickness of the 271 affect the adhesion? This is the only place it's peeling. The part was preped and primed off the car. Thanks! Tom

I don't know. In all the years I've owned my Chevelle and repainted the pillar covers, I've always used rattle can primer and satin finish rattle can paint with excellent results. The repaints were necessary due to scratches over the years. Prep consisted of grease remover, sanding with 400 paper (dry) and a couple of coats of paint. Came out smooth as silk and no adhesion problems.
