So I go and buy a el camino project a few months back, two hours after its home its running but never quite right. Since the interior is seen better days I went and had the seat redone, new headliner, carpet, new tires. Then it sits, I get tired of looking at the thing. So like a dummy I decide to put it in the paper for sale. Since its trim is off I decide why not throw it on, to sell easier. Then the nagging backfiring out the carb, adjust the valves, check timing, find a bad acc. pump in the carb. floats too low. Well get that straightened out, pull it out into the cul de sac, do a few small burn outs.
Now I have to find out what its going to cost to insure the darn thing, because Im sure going to get a bad case of sellers remorse if I sell it, and probably won't find another one for what I have into it. ($2100). Now I just need to recharge the AC, and maybe a cheap paint job. Jim

dont worry about that when i first got my 66 el camino project i went through the same thing. But after a lot of part replacing and a lot of tinkering with the motor the elky ran excellent, i have been daily driving it for almost a year now. Everyone goes through this when they first buy a project just keep working on it and have fun it will be worth it trust me.

Yesterday I finally get tired of looking at the 14 inch torq thrusts on it, went and swapped out a set of weld 5 stars 15x8 and 15x7, talk about making it look like another car!, tonight Im going to hook up the choke cable. Heck my wife says if I replace the stereo, charge the air, and throw a cheap paint job on it, she would even drive the thing. Jim

Well a friend of mines brother who has more money than sense agreed to my $4200 price. Now Im torn, I really don't have that much into the car, I can always find another car to play with, heck I have my 70 chevelle, and 71 camaro. I think Im going to sleep on it. It would definetly get a good home, he has access to all the help at a dealership, and hes got the money to do it right. Jim

Jim: You got to stop going around to all of those yard sales and stay home and work on the cars. You are too awesome at finding the deals.

Im happy to report that I got insurance on the el camino this morning, came straight home and went to get it smogged. One small hitch, it started raining last monday when I was swapping the wheels around and I left on loose! Driving down the road and the wheel started coming loose. Of course in my rush to get it smogged I didn't put a jack or a lug wrench in the car, wife forgot the phone, so Im sitting on the side of the road trying to tighten the lugs with a leatherman! Fortunately a guy stopped by because he thought my elky was his dads, luckily he let me borrow a lug wrench, car sailed through smog. Gonna drive the heck out of it from here on out, and maybe get it a cheap paint job. Jim

I actually looked in the glove box and the darn truck even has a owners manual. its for a 68 but it says for nova chevelle camaro. pretty cool. unfortuantely its been reupholstered in the past and the door panels have been off so I hadn't had any luck with a build sheet. Did they put them anywhere else in a el camino? thanks Jim
