In 07 The NHRA will change there point system to something simular to the idea of the new NASCAR point change.
17 races into the season the top 8 point leaders will be the only ones going for the Championship win at the end of season
I know this is for the Professional cat. not sure of the lower classes like the Alcohol class, but most likely it is...
Not sure I agree with this change..

so sad. NHRA doesnt need to do this at all. This year has provided some very close championship races all year.

well, NASCAR did it, and they seem to think it made the series more entertaining for the folks at home- you know, add to the drama.

I think Nascar is different, with 36 or so races, it wasnt uncommon to see huge point gaps that realisticly would "clinch" the championship after 28 races barring an unheard of disaster in the remaining races.

NHRA's points update after each round, so I dont think its needed at all. The Funny Car championship has been very exciting, as has Pro Stock, and Tony Schumacher's return to championship contention has been great.

Thats was also mentioned by NHRA.
To me its always been exciting just the way it is. Now these point leads after race #17 will be spread apart by 10 points each driver from #1 to #8. So if the driver in first place with 100 points ahead will than be only 10 points ahead of second place driver...

With one of the most competitive points year ever, why now? I think it sucks! they showed a graph showing Kalita's lead of 450 or so over Lucas, it would be 70 points under the new system. Lucas has absolutely sucked this year, and Kalita and Shumacher are the snizitz. Could you imagine Lucas being able to suck so bad, and possibly get lucky in two races? UGH!

Thats exactly what could happen next season. After race 17, the season almosts starts over again.

blowing off the rear tires in round 1 could lose a championship in a split second, despite dominating the first 17 races. I dont find that entertainment.

I'd like to know if the majority of ALL the pro teams, top to bottom in points, endorsed it. If so, OK. But if the majority don't like it, leave the current system alone.

The more I think about it, the more I hate it. Here is a A perfect example. A few weeks ago I took out my normally deadly reliable and consistent street racer. Long story short, in the finals of our local No Bull race, my always perfect nitrous fuel pressure drops and the car breaks up a bit on the second half of the track, and I loose the race by a fender!

Turns out the foam in my fuel cell has started deteriorating and is getting caught in the fuel filter and slowing the flow. I know that's racing, and I lost the race. But to lose the entire years championship over some fricken foam?

The racers hate it, so I hate it.

No different than the light change for PS Bikes......NHRA seems to be getting just like big brother, change the rules without even consulting or doing what is right by the masses

A few top racers where asked if they will like the new Rule change, including Garlits, and they all were negative on the answer...

That doesn't surprise me. Typical NHRA. It's all about the money and getting more fans, advertising, TV exposure, etc. Maybe good for growing the sport but stepping on the ones that count the most IMO, the racers.
