I am looking on ebay for these and I have seen a crank that is half as much as one from Jegs New? Something is fishy here.....

Can you post a link? what engine do you have?

Is this the one? It's about $120 less than the one I purchased a few months ago.

Aren't ALL eagle cranks actually counterfeit? I thought they were imported from China.

If they are made in China, they will sell to anyone with money. but then again, is it counterfiet if it is the same part off the same line? but be warned. I know a lot of people that have had to turn new bargin cranks, myself included!

It's not uncommon to find factory "seconds" on ebay. The sellers usually don't disclose that however...

Exactly right!
If it's priced too good to be true...it probably is... :(

What do "seconds" entail? I just don't want to buy something that will fall apart or break. Thanks

A "second" means the part got kicked out by QC for some reason and wasn't good enough to be shipped to a dealer. The defect may be cosmetic, may be out of spec machine work, etc. You never know.

Buying seconds direct from the mfg. direct is OK because they usually disclose exactly what the problem is so you know what to expect.

eagle stuff is from china. qc is in the us. heard alot of horror stories on another board. on the other side my 355 with eagle sir rods has seen 7000 rpms quite often with no problems. i run a gm steel crank in it though.

If its from a "E-bay Store" and they'll accept returns if defective might be worth looking at, but I wouldn't buy something like that from a private seller.

I know in my 489 we had the machinist look it over very close when it got here. The small end of the rods that were/are bushed needed a little hone on a few of them. BC they were to tight.

Other stuff I have like the 5.7 Hbeam rods in my 408 were fine.

I would hate to get a second from one that had been kicked by QC. But if they were straight up with you what the heck.

There are a lot of sources that give the perception that they're selling Eagle parts but are not. The ads usually read something to the effect of "Made the same factory as Eagle" or "Same as Eagle."

If you're specific to Eagle parts check with Eagle if the distributor is an authorized dealer. If they're not, and the parts are cheap, then it's probably not the real deal. With next to zero profit margins you can't double tier something and still compete on price, you have to buy direct and you have to buy in volume.

Eagle also sells quite a bit of seconds, although they're disclosed from Eagle when they're sold. .010 undersized, .020 under, cosmetic issues, ect. are all offered so its hard ot say exactly what you're going to receive if you choose to go this route.

The problem with "just return it to the seller" is that you've paid $35 to ship it to you and $35 to ship it back. Sure, you can probably get the original price refund but you'll be out the $70 you paid to find out.

Hope that helps,

Brian
