Hi Guys,

I have stripped to bare metal the insides of the rear wheelhouses (above the tires) of my 69 Chevelle SS, replaced the rusty metal and want to repaint them. I don't want to use undercoating, but want something fairly durable to hold up against rocks, etc. I have searched through many of the archives and revisited Scott Cain's articles, but I still have some questions and seek input from you. My initial thinking is to start with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, then a skim coat of filler, followed by a primer/sealer and a finish coat of either Eastwood's Chassis Black or Underhood Black. Is black the correct color for this area and to what level of gloss? Or, is it supposed to be the same color as the outside body? Also, are you supposed to use a Seam Sealer in the gaps between the inner and outer wheelhousings? If so, will Eastwood Seam Sealer do the job or do you need the Black Ultra Flex?

Thanks in advance for any help!

After the underside of my wheel wells were blasted, I used seam sealer then sprayed multiple coats of DP 90 epoxy primer. The DP 90 has the flat black finish that I think looks good for underside areas. Sprayed over bare blasted metal it's pretty tough as well. JMHO.

You could use a truck-bed type liner and just roll it on.
