I am getting ready for a paint job on my 70 and decided to pull the incorrect vinyl top off of it. The car never came with a vinyl top but the previous ownre must have liked them or something.
I did quite a bit of poking around before pulling it and did not find any opvious signs of corrosion like bubbling or anything like that.
Well I pulled the vinyl off and NO RUST anywhere! :) - Man I am happy. Well there is a little rust where the guy trimmed the vinyl with a razor knife and went through the paint but nothing major. Now to get that darn glue off. I'll make another post for that. LOL Looks better already.

I know of using a heat gun to soften up the adhesive,and Ive read here in the past of using a type of thiner,,but Im not exactly sure so search on. It may not be thiners.perhaps acitone,so check.. I am sure about the heat though,then a plastic scraper to get the heavy stuff... Well good luck,nice car.. phil

Congrats on the lack of rust. Unfortunaely, there isn't anything but good ole elbow grease that's going to take that off.

Update: I asked in another post and someone reccomended laquer thinner and it worked great. Right down to the sealer or whatever they sprayed on the roof. Took about 2 hours and that includes the drip rails and "A" pillars. Used a terry clorh towel. It kind if gummed up and re-sticks so I just kept moving in on dirrection and worked great.

Some kind of 80's Ford color. It was on there when I purchased it. Paint is about 20 years old and looks better in pictures than in person. It's going to be painted this winter. (White W/Black SS Stripes. :) )
