Hey guys, here is the situation. I am swapping the SBC i had in there for a 427 BBC. Now the block itself is a generic 70's 454 two piece main seal block, nothing special, early, or otherwise.

I have a standard looking Saginaw power steering pump, the pear shaped one that is more common, not the one with the skinnier filler neck on the earlier models so i understand.

Now how in the heck does this thing mount to the correct year power steering brackets that i got from one our sponsors.

Help me out, make sure i have the right stuff to get this done. Here is an example of what the pump i have now looks like.

And here is an example of the brackets that i have. I remember getting a kit like this that has these 2 brackets as well as the bolts/nuts/washers supposedly necessary to install these with the pump. These brackets seem to mount up to my block just fine, at least the cradle piece, the bolt holes in the block are all matching.

Also, last but not least, what is the easiest way to get the pulley off of the power steering pump when it is no longer mounted in the car?

Thanks for all the help once again guys!

bracket on the left bolt to the front of block, lower part of pump bolts to the cradle, bracket on the right bolts to the front of the pump after removing the pulley, I think you need a spacer(washer) behind it and the adjusting nut goes into the water pump. I used a blade and hooked a puller to it and pulled the pulley off. Jim

EDIT: There is a special puller to pull power steering pulleys off. You can rent/borrow them from most auto parts stores.

well, my block is a long water pump block from a generic 70's 454, so i know i have the right year brackets and stuff. Any pictures or how it mounts or something like that would be a huge help, as well as confirmation that i have the right stuff.

Also any advice on how to remove the pulley out of the car already would be awesome, i have a compressor and impact gun if necessary.

I've got some pics at home that should help you out. I'll try and post them later tonight. There's about a 1/2" spacer you need also to line up correctly to your crank pulley.

Well, here are the photos I took of mine as I was taking it apart. (it looks a little cleaner now....) They are pretty self-explanatory.
