I have been reading a lot about letting your paint cure for 24 hours before clearing. I am shooting my car in DuPont chromabase (tri coat)
basecoat is metal flake
midcoat is pearl
topcoat is (forgot the #) new product with a long # that is suppose to give you a lots of depth in the paint. My question is should I shoot the base on the first day, shoot the pearl on the second and clear the third day allowing 24 hours between coats. After the topcoat is applied I am planning on letting it cure for a few days reblocking in 800 adding stripes and reclearing the entire car.

thanks in advance for any input
Ron

It'll be really nice, definately worth the wait in my opinion

I thought it would be worth the wait too. Now if I could get a painter to confirm if I have 24 hrs. between coats or if I have 24 hrs to get the topcoat on.

From the Tech sheet....24hrs max before clearcoat. Flash times before tape, twotone...... is 30 min, between coats is 5-10min. and flash before clearcoat is 15-30min.
When in doubt always read the tech sheet, in fact it(tech sheet) says it should not be sanded, nib sanding of small areas should be followed by an application of color before cleacoating.
IMO 800 grit is way to harsh to scuff/cut fresh clear, it will leave visible sanding marks, if for some reason you need to reshoot after the 24hr window, scuff it with 1500.

Thanks Jim for the help. The reason for 800 was adhesion. I was told the clear needs something to bite into. The reason for reclearing is I want depth in the paint, again this is what I am told I need to do to get the look I want. I am not a professional painter as you can tell but want to achieve a high end paint job. any additional input would be appreciated.

I used PPG clear over my PPG cortez silver basecoat. 3 coats of clear were applied with a 30 min. wait time between coats. My firewall now has a very deep "wet" cortez silver paint job and looks awesome. I used the firewall for practice as well as the underside of my decklid. I now have to make some air supply/demand corrections due to some minor "orange peel" om the deck lid.
