I think I'm going to do away w/my factory tach and speedo setup and install some Autometer units. What size guages do I need for this, and does this swap do away with the factory lens?

You might want to look at a setup from Covans Classics for this. This replaces the dash insert with a new one & has all Auto Meter gauges Of any type you want. I don't think it would be all that easy to put new gauges into a stock dash & make it look good. I'm doing this on my 69 & like the look.My stock dash was in bad shape anyway so this worked well. There has been a lot of discussion about these & some like them & some don't.

Looks good TC...what size guages are they, including the gas guage. What are you doing for oil/temp?

Hey that looks awesome!!I wonder if it could be done on a 70 SS style dash?

The dash bezel has a formed metal piece that can be cut out to install new gauges from the rear. I cut out my clock location and installed a 2-1/8" oil pressure gauge in it's place.

I mounted the oil, temp and volt meters in chrome cups on a bracket under the dash.
If I remember correctly the speedo and tach. are the 5" dash mount and the fuel gauge is the small one, cant remember the size, but they only make two sizes?
I cut a bow tie in the plastic for the high beam indicator cause ya loose that and the brake warning lite, I used red led's for the brake warning.
Hope this helps?

Thanks TC, great info. I totally forgot about the high beam and brake indicators...I like what you did for that.

I'm not sure what combo I'm going to go with. I like this gauge, but then I would have to do something with the tach.

I could put it where the clock is, but it might be hard to see. But then again, you dont really look at the tach a whole lot anyway right?

Hi there are those gauges pretty much a slide in? or did you have to do some custom install work from the rear to make them solid?

You could go "old school" with the tach and mount it on the steering column.
