Hey Team,
Well, here I am wondering which way to go with my combo in quest of the 10 second timeslip.
My combo in brief, is as follows: 454.030 over, 049`s port to flow 290cc`s, vic jr, holley950hp, 2in headers, UD 288/296 solidFT on a 110, 4.10`s, 29.5 x 9 slick, 9" BTE stall (3700) with C50+ stator.
Now, in no particular order, here are my choices:
1) leave engine as is and go to an 8" stall (BTE or ATI).
2) stroker kit to 489/496 cu in keeping the 049`s & cam.
3) AFR heads on 049 headed combo (cnc or box stock?)
For any of these combo`s would you think a bigger cam would be a good choice? FT or SR?
Let`s have your opinions on which swap an possible ET gains.
Thanks,

A head swap with a SR cam to match. Worked for me last year.
Considering that the head swap alone will remove 75 lbs off the front of your car.

Dual plane, smaller headers ;) The heads will get you there. After swapping to the ATI 8" MRT converter, I don't think I'd ever try another converter.

I'm surprised there aren't a lot more responses to this one, so let me give it a shot. ;)
I haven't made it to the 10's yet myself but I vote for the converter swap and the smaller headers mentioned above sound like a worthy experiment. Those generic Summit tubes are cheap, too, so you lose mostly labor time if they don't help.
My least favorite is the head swap. I'm partial to the underdog factory heads. :)

I feel the converter will be the best bet. I'm sure with the weight of the car more stall will help it move. Plus you will probably need the converter to effectively perform any of the other mods.

Converter first .......then definitely heads ,you dont say what your CR is right now but if not 10.1 good heads with CNC chambers to bring you to 10.1 with your cam pump gas no problem ......also with better heads your headers may be fine just add some 4-2-1 collectors if you need some bottom end ..I also agree with dual plane and get Patrick to put the touch on your carb ,maybe do carb / collectors with converter first. FWIW
chris ,my father in laws 66 elky has near ident combo to yours, we switched from 3500 stall 10 in converter to a 4800 8 in converter went from 11.20 at 120 to 11.14 at 120 . spitting at the 10's now

The 288 solid flat tappet is probably good for about 6300-6500 in the 460CI motor, I would stay with the 2" headers for a motor running above 6000. You need to go solid roller now. I know guys like the flat tappet cams, but there is no comparison to a roller. A step up to a roller (with no more duration than you already have) has to be worth a good 40-50HP.
