ok this will be a long question sorry but here goes. i have a 70(1) speaker shelf was rotted away so there was not any trunk hinge support there.(2) wheelwells were rotted so no hinge support there either. so i replaced trunkfloor, wheelwells in&out. speaker shelf, speakershelf dropdown braces to wheelwells. full quarter panels both sides.tailpanel, and rear deck filler panel. i have all lined up with screws intact. i start trial fitting bumper OK. the lower valance OK. the trunklid is giving me TROUBLE because the trunk hinges i cant seem to get them in the right location. WHEW now the question. how can i get the trunk hinges in the corret location? remove springs get in trunk with it closed and then put screws in place? graemlins/clonk.gif

You answered your own question. Remove the springs and close the lid, that seems logical to me.

I do something similar all the time. I really don't care where they are "supposed" to go, I want them where the lid will fit well. What if you don't have some of that inner structure PERFECT? What if that repro inner structure isn't PERFECT ( smile.gif you KNOW it isn't right now). So, to put the hinges where they make the lid fit perfect and welding them in there makes more sense than putting them where they were from the factory.

We are talking fractions of an inch here, a little bit one way or the other can make a HUGE difference.
