I am buying this 327 this weekend and i was just wondering if someone could get the hp rating out of this number. It is a 68 327 and the number i have is

V0620YZ.

I think it's been read wrong or it's a typo, I don't see a YZ in my book. I'd guess it's supposed to be a YU or YV, which would be a '68 327 out of a Chevy truck with manual trans, 4 bolt main, 220 gross HP. There is a ZY, but that's a '68 307. Recheck the numbers.

it is a YS not a VS. I do know it was in a truck but it was a 68 truck.

alright i picked up the motor today and i got the casting numbers off of it. The casting numbers are 3914678.

The other number i got is V0620YS. This number shows me it is 220hp. I belive or 240hp. But the casting shows it could be a 327,302or 350. When i was leaving he asked me if i got everything i wanted and if i liked the engine. I said yes but i dont think it is a 4 bolt main. And the guy insisted on this fact. He said he gaurentee's it. He seemed very car smart because he had many motor's and had many previous cars he told me about.

The only other thing i know is he said it originally had a holley carb on it. (there is a quadrajet on there now). And he also gave me the holley. Is there anyone who can tell me what motor this is and if you can please explain how you know this. Thanks

I wish I could help more, but cannot find that suffix code in the book and it lists that casting # to be a 2-bolt block. Same casting # for 302, 327, and 350 in 1968. As for the carb, it looks to have a casting date of febuary 1972. This from; Chevrolet by the numbers by Alan L. Colvin

is the holley carb any good? Do you know the cfm's on this carb?
