Hey,

I was at a car show recently looking for some ideas on what hood to put on my car. The 2 1/2 inch cowl is nice but you get can that anywhere. Its those hoods that you dont see that sets your car apart from the others. This guy had a 1970 Nova with an L88 hood. I was just wondering, does anyone know of any hood applications that you dont often see, but are still in existance??

Regards,
Brian

I normally incorperate vehicles pieces from other cars....

One you never see is off a 69 roadrunner...

or this one, an interesting take on the cowl

You could run a shaker scoop, never seen outside TA"s or Mach 1 rustangs...

I always loved the original Firebird Formula hoods...I almost didn't give this one up...but I'm not sure it would fit on the car I have now....or one I'm planning on...so let someone else....

i doubt it would fit,old corvet dont know the year but it had three ridges coming off the hood the outside two met the sides of the scoop and the center one went inside it. you could probably cut it out and weld it into your hood.never seen that on a chevelle hehe

You're talking about the Corvette "Stinger" hood that came on big block vettes. That would be very different. I wouldn't try welding it on though. Last time I checked, Vettes were made of fiberglass. graemlins/clonk.gif

Yup, the aftermarket cowl induction is being used so much on every make and model that I really don't care for it anymore. My Son and I will be fabbing our own steel scoop for his Nova, I've already picked up the shapes we need from donor panels. Novas are very limited on hood clearance, with his RPM airgap intake.

Cowl hoods are in the same category with me as Tourque Thrust IIs', I'm so sick of both of them I could hurl. No offense to anyone who has either or both on their car, they look great and at one point I liked both allot, but now I'm just tired of them.

The L88 bulge is one of my personal favorites, not to many guys running them but they look great on certain cars. The '67 stinger scoop is another nice one, a couple outfits offering fiberglass hoods with them for the 3rd Gen. Camaros and probably others. The Ford Thunderbolt bulge is pretty cool, but I couldn't "mix breeds" like that myself. Now if you want something all Chevy and fairly uncommon, try a '65-'66 BB vette bulge, I've seen it done on I can't remember what but it looked good.

Now if you want something all Chevy and fairly uncommon, try a '65-'66 BB vette bulge, I have thought of this for my 66 Chevelle... The side "intake grilles" on the Vettes are similar to the 66 Chevelle SS scoops, so I thought of a custom domed hood with the entire center raised, instead of just the two small scoops...

I also thought it would be cool to have the intake grilles (again on my 66 SS hood) actually be functional maybe with some sort of carb pan/ducting under the hood (I think some of the Mopars/1968(?) Road Runners were like this (NOT the Air Grabber)), and maybe with "flappers" that actually worked, like the 70-72 Chevelle Cowl hood (but on the sides... Too much work...

Corvette 427 stinger hood. I think it would look pretty cool on a Chevelle.
