After I got the Chevelle, something just wasn't right. It ran good and all but just didn't feel like it had a 454 in it. Way back in high school I had a 79 Firebird that the previous owner squeezed a Olds 455 in, so I had some big block experience.

The cam and compression are unknown, but I started doing searches on all the parts I know that I have. While doing a search for holley, I came across some posts about the paper clip test to see if the secondaries are opening. Went out and did the test and the paper clip didn't budge. Gotta love the search function. From there I went and bought the spring kit for holley carbs.

Changed out the spring and all is good, I have a four barrell carb now. I am very novice to all this, so these little repairs make me all proud and stuff (gas tank problem also fixed for those that read that one).

The kind of wierd part to me was that I had to go all the way down to the white spring. Like I said cam an comp. unknown, but it idles good almost smooth, the heads are from 366 - 427 trucks and it only revs to about 4500. Does that sound about right to you guys? There is no bog and the secondaries are deffinately kicking in now, can feel the difference and did the paper clip test to confirm, so it doesn't matter I guess but just checking. Deffinately more fun now than when it was a 2 barrell 454.
