OK If any one can help me with that Id be very happy...However Im realy interested in ID ing my engine...I built the car way back in 84...The short block is supposed to be a 1967 427 ci...I know it has forged crankand 4 bolt mains...The block has been decked and the #s on the right front of the block are gone..I looked above the oil filter and there isnt a machined pad..its just a rough surface..I took some sand paper and rubbed it hoping I could see any #s..I couldnt..It originaly had a cannister filter on it...If I read the block casting # correctly{kind of hard looking in a mirror] it is 3866342...Is there any where else to look for a # to identify the short block..It has 1969 heads on it..I think..lol ..Thanks in advance to any and all help....Steve..

could it be 3869942? makes sence 66 or 67 427 block with canister type oil fileter, corvettes and pass cars, various HP depending on car, both 2 and 4 bolt designs. How did the pheasants do this summer in NW Iowa? I would recommend the book 65-69 chevorlet by the numbers.

OK, I rechecked the casting # and it is 3869942. Is there any other place to check on the block for specific application or other info??? Thanks again..Steve

There should be a casting date on the side of the engine block near a freeze plug, I forget which side. It will look something like: C 5 6, or K 17 6, or A 20 7, you get the idea.

I believe the casting date is below the middle freeze plug on the passenger side.
