I just got a great deal on a couple parts, maybe i can use them, some maybe not. I got a powertrax diff and a 373 gear for a 4 series carrier, is it possible to use this gear in my open 3 series carrier

after doing some searching, i think i can use this gear as long as i use a spacer. is this correct? Are the bolts that come with the spacer strong enough or should i make a change to a grade 8 strength bolt. sure don't want any problems.

I wouldn't do it. I'd just get the correct 3.73 gears for the 3 series and do it right the first time. That great price for the wrong gears might turn into a big expence later. Are you sure that these 3.73 gears are for a 4 series? Those gears are pretty rare.

i crossed the part # off the richmond web site, states it is for a 4 series carrier. your probably right, just get a set for a 3 series gear and not worry about it. Are there that many issues with using a spacer? The car is going to be used for mostly street but will see some track time also. Maybe even look for an open 4 series carrier? Don't need the posi with the powertrax. do they make such an animal?

There are no standard 4 series differentials for the 12 bolt. If you ordered 4 series gears you got a posi. You shouldn't have much trouble getting rid of those gears. There are people with 4.11 gears and a 4 series posi who would like to go up a little to the 3.73.

I have seen several rear ends with the spacers that broke several, if not all of the ring gear bolts. There are also some alignment problems with spacers. It's just best not to use them.

trhanks for the advice, but.....i was suspicious of the box the gears came in and called richmond.....turns out they are 3 series gears according to the stamped part # , box was for 4 series 3:73's.I currently have a 2 series with 2:73's. guess i just need to get a 3 series open and use these gears along with the powertrax diff. sound right to you? Hate to hound you on this.

If they are 3 series gears then that is great. You are right, all you need is a 3 series standard case. I've got a few if you are interested. This is a car 12 bolt, right?
