SevT, Do you Really think Goodmark Quarters are that close to NOS? as far as the fit and thickness of the metal. I am in need of a Drivers Quarter for my 70 and since I can't find Nos I have been tempted to get a Donor Quarter from another car, but that is a heck of alot of work. What is your opinion?

When I finished my 72 receently, I had a NOS GM and a Goodmark. The Goodmark was slightly nicer. Better/cleaner stamping and same gauge steel.

I just installed a pair of Goodmark quarter panels on a '72 Chevelle. They looked pretty nice although they did have some imperfections from stamping...nothing that a good primer/surfacer couldn't fix.

What suprised me was how thin the passenger side panel felt compared to stock. This was the first panel we hung. Then I did the drivers side only to find the sheetmetal was much thicker (much closer to stock thickness) than the first one that we hung. That kinda upset me, but what you gonna do once it's welded on?

Thanks Guys I just dont want to have the thin metal on my car. I have used the lower Quarter patches from Goodmark on another 70 I had and the thickness of the metal was really different but like you said what do you do once it is welded. Thanks again!

Fathom not sure if you are talking to me but Ill give my opinion about the topic. The goodmark quarters are very nice quarters. The ones I got werent excalty the same gauge of metal but pretty damn close only a slight difference I measured between the originals quarters I removed and a pair of NOS I have.

A few spots I noticed wrong with the quarters was on the drivers side, up on the top of the quarter where it bends around to go into the door jam right where the quarter glass and window glass meet. It wasnt stamped out as crisp and alittle deformed but nothing major, a little hammer and dolly work and a slight cut with the cutoff wheel fixed that. The other spot was on the drivers side too up on the sail panel right there it goes under the roof skin. It just wasnt bent right but all it needed was a small pie cut or pie shaped piece of metal removed from the sail panel.

My quarters werent different gauges from left to right but not saying some stamped were not different, just that mine were the same.

Those imperfections from the stamping are nothing to worry about. All the imperfections are around places where tight curves or bends are formed. Any panel has them, be it goodmark or NOS pieces and even the brand new parts made by GM today to go on new cars have these imperfections.

My opinion on used parts is you better know what you are buying and who it is from. Used parts might seem great but remember it to is thrity plus years old and has damage and repair done to it more then likely.

Go with the goodmark quarters the full OE style I guartee you that you wont be disappointed. I have a pair of NOS quarters that I wont install on my next car to do because I can install the goodmarks alot cheaper and honestly those NOS quarters are for the point show cars. Those guys that build them want GM parts nothing less let them pay the price of NOS quarters.

SevT,

I was actually writing to you because I had read a few ads that you had responded to about bodywork (Quarters, wash primer and so forth) so I apreciate your input and I will probably get the Goodmark ones. I just worry because my car is Blk on Blk and it has to be staight or it will show everything I have no problem doing any metalwork but filler, and priming and sanding I just don't know the stages to go in I guess. anyway appreciate it!

Fathom, its no problem Iam glad to help, this is the reason why I come there day after day to lend a helping hand. Dont be afraid to send me an email if you need any advice Ill do the best I can. The best advice I can give anyone is that body work isnt that hard just requires patience and confidence in yourself if you believe it can happen it will. Good luck with the car...Fathom...Eric
