I have to replace the rear shoes on my wifes 2001 honda civic. I tried to inspect them once before but could`nt pull the drum off. I did`nt think much about it at the time but now they need to be replaced. Anyone know what it takes to get them off? A friend of mine said I might have to screw a bolt into the drum to push it off and that the bolt should be attached somewhere but I did`nt see one. Also, are these brakes systems similar to the chevy style? What I mean is, I have the tools to do a chevy brake job. can i use the tools I got or will I need to get a different tool? Thanks.

No clue but if they have a star-type adjuster you can access thru the backing plate, try backing that off so you can pull the thing off. I've never jacked with one off that type of car.

all japanese drum brakes have 2 holes in the drum itself where you screw 2 bolts in and it will push the drum off...hope that helps

You may have to take off the spindle nut.

I was assuming anything with a star adjuster had an access hole in the backing plate.

It does. do you know what size they are? metric I`m sure.

pro68, wasn`t trying to be a smat ass. It might have the adjuster but I have`nt had time to get under it and take a look for a access hole.

cliffs70, I did`nt see any nut holding the drum on at all.

im not sure on what size they are but they're a fine metric thread...just find long bolts that hit and some wd-40 and a hammer will do it in no time
