I have a friend that is converting from bench seat to buckets, and while he was able to correctly position the bucket seats, he is unsure exactly where the brackets should attach to postion the console in the proper location on the center hump... is there any template or method to locate how far forward/back the console attaching brackets should be located? Any help/pics would be appriciated. Thanks!

I mounted the shifter cable to the auto tranny and attached it to the shifter.
Took the car through the gears making sure the cable operated smoothly, then mounted the shifter plate.
I then attached the rear console mounting bracket to the console and set the console around the factory staple shifter and between the factory buckets.
Mounted top plate, and gear indicator plate and checked everything again.
Removed gear indicator and top plates.
Marked the location of the front holes and rear plate.
Drilled the front bracket holes and welded the rear bracket.
Reassembled everything.
Looks and works like original.

I strongly recommend checking the shifter range and fit of all other components before welding the rear bracket.
You know the old saying; meaure twice ...

Good luck,
Joe

We did the same thing on our '69 el Camino. The floor pans had been replaced and the console had to be shimmed with washers at the screw holes so as to not lean left or right. Worked fine.
