While removing my headlight buckets for refinishing, I noticed that each had a couple of dabs of caulk or seam sealer between the backside of bucket and core support. Anybody know the purpose of this? Was it to aid the assembly line workers? Is it needed or will the spring and two adjustment screws be enough to hold each bucket?

I don't remember any caulking or anything on my headlight buckets when I took them off. Maybe a previous owner did that for some reason?

Ron Yes. It was like dried caulk. Check out the picture, you can see 3 circular spots where I removed the stuff.

Must have been a previous owner? I just recently took mine off for restore and there was nothing like caulk or anything else behind there.
From the looks of that yellow on that core support, someone has been in there working on that thing at some time. That's NOT factory yellow paint!
By the way, I had my core support media blasted and then powder coated. Turned out really nice!
