Hey guys, i need some help figuring out what does where on my new motor. I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM BBC intake, and a Stewart, State 1 cast water pump.

Now of course the major inlets/outlets on the intake are easy, the large size hoses that go to the radiator. Now there are a few others though that i dont know if i need, or where to attach them to.

On the Edelbrock intake besides the main outlet where the water neck goes, there is an opening directly on the front of the intake facing forward towards the front of the car, as well as one of the right and left of the water neck outlet facing up.

Now on the water pump there is the main inlet that goes directly into the pump from the bottom of the radiator. Up top there are also 2 holes ( i am assuming they are both outlets ) on the water pump. These are mainly the ones in question. I am thinking, or have seen before if i remember right one of these hoses goes into the heater core inlet, and a return line from the heater core goes to the intake. The other outlet from the water pump goes directly into the intake at that forward facing hole in the intake. The remaining hole in the top of the intake gets plugged.

I figure this is about as clear as mud, here is a picture of the front of the engine. I circled all the fittings that i am talking about. Thanks guys!

ok Ill try to help you on this one...The hole on the front of the intake is a bypass hose, it connects to the water pump. One of the fittings[the passenger side of intake] goes to the heater core inlet. The hole on the drivers side of intake can be plugged off or install your temp gauge sender there. The remaining hole on the water pump is for the heater core return.

Take a quick look through the showroom pictures, I'm sure you'll find the answers you need visually as well.

Alright Steve, looked through all the pics in the showroom :) There are so many pretty engines in there that i can't barely see the hoses they are all so done up, lol.

Now only thing is that which is the inlet/outlet for the heater core, the upper or lower fitting, and which fitting on the waterpump is for the bypass, which one goes to the heater core? Thanks guys, this has been a huge help!

Daniel, The bypass hose will be connected to the water pump at the drivers side fitting. As for the heater core, I dont know which is inlet or outlet...dont know if it matters. Make the top the inlet and connect it to the intake. The bottom one will then go to the water pump fitting on the passenger side...Hope this helps

Awesome Steve, thanks for the help, now i need to go buy hose :)

Inlet/outlet to the heater core does matter. Bigger hose = outlet, smaller hose = inlet.

Perfect, thanks for the help Mark!

Any idea on the sizes of the hoses for these things? 1/2, 3/4?

If hooked up properly, they can only go on one way. The heater core has two different size fittings. The 5/8" hose comes out of the intake manifold (pass side), goes to the bottom fitting on the heater core. Water comes back out of the top fitting of the heater core (3/4" fitting) and then back into the water pump (pass side). All of the fittings in the water pump and intake are 1/2" NPT. So you need 1/2" NPT to 5/8" hose and 1/2" NPT to 3/4" hose.

What he said! ;)

Here's a pic of my setup at the front of intake. There are other variations to this. I think on mine the water pump goes to the heater core, then returns to the intake fitting. I'd have to check it to be certain. Scratch that - I checked some of my other pics, and the larger hose looks like the water pump connection, which is the return. So it's intake (5/8") to heater core inlet, and heater core outlet (3/4") to water pump.

Pull your engine back out and spend a weekend degreasing, cleaning and painting your engine bay. You'll thank me later.
