This is a continuation of a thread that I started a few weeks ago about the Fat Man spindle that I just installed and was experiencing a lot of bumpsteer.
Well, after some good advice from Team Chevelle, I decided to install a new ATX steering arm from ATS. I really had to modifiy the arm and the spindle to get it to fit. I hated to do it because it was a real great looking piece, but I had to grind it down considerably to get it to sit against the spindle right and out of the way of the ball joint. I was worried about weakening it but it looks to be alright.
Well, I finally got it to fit and after some road tests, it seems to have totally eliminated the bumpsteer. I'm really happy with the way it drives now...what a difference!
If anyone has a Fat Man or similiar spindle and have a problem with bumpsteer, you might want to think about doing this install.
Thanks

Corey,
This is great news...gald I don't have the Fatman spindle...however....
My ATS AFX spindles and arms await installation...I need the rotor and caliper assemblies and a nice weekend to complete the change from the F Body setup I currently have on the car. I'm also using the Baer Eradispeed+ two piece rotors and PBR Calipers for now. Just curious, what brand and type of rotor and caliper are you using with the Fatman spindles? I'd like to go with a slotted or plain face rotor rather than the cross drilled and slotted which Baer offers (which I currently have on the car), however I do like the two piece rotor they offer...perhaps I should call Baer and see if they would consider this as an alternate option. And yes I will be one of many offloading my front Baer rotor and calipers in favor of the C5/C6 setup to fit the AFX spindle...Sam

Sam,
I have the Baer 4 wheel track system with the cross drilled rotors. Since I bought, I've seen this setup on about every car show I watch now. I bought everything together back when the Fat Man spindle was the cats meow...funny how things change like that. Though I don't know what the difference between the Fat Man and AFX spindles are geometrically if both need this steering arm to correct bumpsteer.
Anyway, I just love the way my Chevelle rides these days. Handles great with all the changes. Have an ATS steering box on order which should improve it even further.

I'm glad to see it worked. Let us know if we can help in the future.

Corey,
I've got the ATS steering arm for my Fat Man spindles but haven't installed them yet. You're right, they are a work of art. I'm a little bummed now after reading that you had to grind on them to make them fit. Did you have to remove a lot of material from the arms?

BTW, Baer can do 2-piece slotted only rotors-- at least they used to last time I ordered from them. Just have to ask them.

Troy,
Thanks I was wondering about that...

Al,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, I did have to remove quite a bit of material to get them to fit. Just go slow and only remove what you need. I think structurely it is still in good shape. It made a world of difference and I highly recommend it.
