You can use your external reservoir on the new pump by exchanging the reservoir from your old one to the new one. They did it on mine at the rebuilding shop

I did a remote set up for my 64 S/B 350. I bought one from Autozone, paid the core charge. I also had to buy a special mounting bracket from Zoops.

A-1 Cardone # 20-151...pump without reservoir.
Funny thing is...their website says '66-7 396ci >> R+R only(send in/rebuild your old one)
( they must now be doing "contract" rebuilding for some of the aftermarket parts houses.. NPD,Year 1 etc.)
However.... isn't this pump the same as '68-72 BB pickups/Suburbans?(YES!)
20-151 is '68 BB pickup....also '66-7 Chevelle V8 exc.396.
It'll work fine.

I can't find the reciept for the one I got from NAPA, but Ground Up lists a rebuilt GM pump... Part# APS-6094 for 65-68 BB with remote reservoir.

Aps-6094 "oddly" enough interchanges to #20-6094 A-1(hmm..notice the similarity?) 20-6094 is listed for '68 Chevelle w/396.. pump w/res.(68 uses remote fill like 65-7.Ground Up says it fits '65-8 according to Bills post.Pump without reservoir is #20-151 for 68-396.Also BB pickups(remote fill also) .

I am aware that A1's listing says its for 67 V8 except 396. I believe the listing is incorrect.(not surprising nowadays)
The point I'm trying to make is...if the #6094/20-6094 pump w/res. is the same for '65-68...(of course I can't prove this by Cardones website)how could the pump w/out res. #20-151 be different?
I'm 99.9% confident it will fix your problem.:)

I got one from Advance Auto, after ordering every GD pump at Napa and having them all come to the store wrong!!!!! If you go www.advanceautoparts.com (http://www.advanceautoparts.com) and order one for a 68 chevelle with 396 you will get the correct pump and a lifetime warranty to boot. I think they were far less expensive than everyone else at the time as well. JN

Nope, the steering pump is correct, no changing of housing is necessary. Bolt on and go. this part number. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=A1C&mfrpartnumber=206094&parttype=251&ptset=A
