The car starts fine but when it comes off of fast idle it runs rough and dies unless you pat the gas peddle. once it's revved up for a few seconds, it runs fine. I have no check engine light or stored codes.

possible it could be the IAC valve (idle air control) they will mall function and not set codes. thats a place to start. Also Using a tooth bruch and Throttle body cleaner I have solved some of the same problems by cleaning the throttle body.

With the engine running. Pull off the vacuum port on the fuel pressure regulator and see if you get any fuel coming out of it. Is this a 3.1?

If no gas is coming out, take a whiff of the hose (or poke a q-tip in the hose) to check for fuel, there shouldn't be any gas getting into the hose. I've seen where the fuel pressure regulator shot a stream of gas 3 or 4 feet in the air, and I've seen 'em where the inside of the vacuum line was damp with gas.

Usually when the fuel pressure regulator is bad, the vehicle will be hard to start ... but not always.
