I just painted my frame with black base coat. My paint suppler said to use 16 paint 16 stabilizer and 1 once hardener. (this he said would not need to be cleared, he says they use it all the time to repaint bumbers without clearing)
My nieghbor tells me " You better clear that or any oil or brake fluid residue will mess it up. And not if you clear coat it"
Can you pro's help me with what to do?
I really like the semi gloss almost dull finish finish it has now and not sure I want clear it. thanks in advance for your help.

Basecoat has no protection from ultraviolet rays (sunshine) and if you park with the hood up, eventually the frame will fade and chalk to a white color. I would clear it with a cheaper clear, and add flattener to it to make it a satin finish. I actually use flattened single stage urethane on my frames.

I'd listen to Dave and put a flattened clear on it for sure.
