I know this has been beaten into the ground so much that now I am a little confused. Are the stock disc brakes better than a g body swap or what? I see that people tie up thousands of dollars in new brake systems, but I can't afford that. Also , if you swap, do you use taller lower ball joints? Derrick I have read your posts about the disc conversion for less than 800 dollars and your post about whats stopping you? I am not building a drag car and either way I go I will be using 11' discs.

The stock ones are just fine. I have them on my 67 Camino with a 572 crate motor, stops great.

I have a stock setup in my -69, and it stops on a dime, the stopping power is actually better than in most new cars I have had. Personally, I think the fancier setups are overkill for a street driven car. Unless you're into some serious racing, you should be fine with stock brakes, as long as they are in good shape.

And I don't buy into the hp discussion that pops up now and then. Stopping a car with a 500 hp engine doesn't take more than stopping a car with a 200 hp engine. IMO, the brake requirement is a matter of speed, weight and the way you drive. If you need to drive very fast for a long time, you might want a better setup, but stock brakes should be sufficient for most cars.
