so i got the manual box on, and i go to connect the rag joint and it slips right over the splined shaft from the box, but has way too much slop. must be a smaller shaft compared to the power box i took off...
can anyone fill me in on this?

The input shaft should be the same diameter on both boxes, and there shouldn't be any slop at all where it connects to the box. The only place where there could be any slop (providing that you have the right steering box and rag joint) would be inside the steering box itself, or in the ball joints.

the manual box shaft IS a bit smaller than the shaft on the power steering box. the rag joint collar wont tighten enough on the manual box shaft.

i need to know if there were 2 different rag joints. like is there such thing as "manual rag joint?"

Up until 1977 the power gear input shaft was 13/16 in diameter. The manual gear input shaft has always been 3/4 diameter. You do need to find a manual flexible coupling assembly for your Chevelle.

Or the rag joint for a 78 and up power steering vehicle.
