On my 1970 chevelle SS the door has 10/69 and the engine block has
T09220CTW i can't find the vin by that number though to see if it is a matching motor and car, could it be somewhere else or wasn't put on ?? the casting date on the block looks like I 9 9, which makes sense......

I was under the impression (probably false as most of mine tend to be recently) that 1969 was the year the VIN was stamped by the oil filter at some plants and that 1970 was stamped either on the front engine pad or on the bellhousing mating area. Have any casting or engine ID numbers?
About a year ago, a gentleman from Michigan was selling a #3963512 engine block.....on e-bay..
His block, had'nt been decked, and had the engine assembly date and suffix codes, but did'nt have a partial vin# on the front engine pad.....
I suggested he look down by the oil filter area, near the bellhousing area, and to his surprise, he found the partial vin numbers there........10L??????......
It was a 1970 Van Nuys built, LS-5 Chevelle engine.........

I would definitely look there, if it's not on the front pad.............
Thanks Don. Actually, the VIN is there by the oil filter, however I just haven't heard of many 70's having the VIN in that location. I have no doubt that it is a real car, I just want to feel a little more comfortable with the VIN stamping.
Eric, In my opinion, I would bet, the factory stamped the vin# onto your engine block.......
What is the your cowl tag date ???
Where was your Chevelle assembled ???
Is your engine block casting #3969854 ???............................................... .Don.
