: stupid movie editing
Olle Aug 24th, 06, 7:05 PM I saw a movie many years ago, and it was nothing out of the ordinary, but still a pretty well made movie with a good plot, good actors and so on, BUT: In every other scene, you would find the microphone dangling at the top of the screen, showing in a mirror, the shadow of it showing on a wall somewhere, or in short: It made it's presence very noticeable throughout the whole movie. It was pretty hilarious and I still don't know how they could release a movie like that. The funny thing is that at the end of the movie, I noticed for the first time in my life that they actually list the boom operator in the credits.
There are quite a few web sites with movie mistakes, and it can be pretty entertaining to read. Here is one: http://www.moviemistakes.com/
Sid Coleman Aug 24th, 06, 10:10 PM Watching "Dukes of Hazzard" reruns with my son, catching the cars changing all the time :) In just one scene, it started out as a Plymouth Satellite, then switched to a Dodge Monaco, then a Ford LTD going over the jump, then back to the Satellite after the landing. Fun to watch the Ford bend on landing :D

Chris R Aug 25th, 06, 2:48 AM I always notice stuff like that all the time. I wouldnt say it ruins anything for me. But sometimes it really is enough to sour the expierence. Case in point. Ill be the first to admit I like the Nicolas Cage remake of Gone In 60 Seconds. A lot of people dont like it but I enjoyed it. However, the jump scene was just rediculous.

Maybe they don't and it's a fake sound :D

What's difficult for me is watching "present day" movies that try and use high-tech gadgets that do not and could not exist - yet they try and pass it off as plausible. Unless it's something like the movie Hackers where they just go so overboard it's humerous. Ostensibly speaking, of course. ;)
I don't make time for watching crazy movies that no one in their right mind has ever heard of. :D quit choosing the "Netflix suggestions" and start reading the story line. Have you seen Diner yet?

Anyone here watch "After the Sunset" (or something like that) when the dude was able to remote-control drive any car by getting the bar-code off the VIN plate... even the guy inside the car couldn't control the steering, throttle, brakes, or even unlock the doors to get out.
Why does every room in every office building have return ducts big enough to crawl through? Most rooms would have supply ducts around 6-8"dia, and return/transfer ducts into the ceiling space...and you sure wouldn't crawl around on the ceiling grid.

allengator Aug 25th, 06, 11:28 AM Being a musician... one of my pet peeves is when garage bands full of dirt poor kids have the wrong equipment! Guitar and amps that would be way out of their budget!

Back in the Day.......A lot of counties and cities would pour their fleet vehicles used oil on dirt roads to get rid of it.....you could make a car squeal on those roads!
theclencher Aug 25th, 06, 12:49 PM I used to critique movies like that- finding all the mistakes and ridiculous presentations of how things work. Eventually I decided I was ruining "the movie experience" for myself- it is supposed to be an escape after all.
Movies work much better if you turn your brain off and just go with the flow.
theclencher Aug 25th, 06, 1:45 PM Yeah- just kick back, slip into a semi-vegetative state, and become comfortably numb.
kevin d Aug 25th, 06, 2:26 PM A lot of Arnold's earlier (cheesier) movies were just FULL of stuff like that. Commando is probably one of the worst. From jumping out of the airliner to the Porsche that rolls onto the driver's side and gets pretty well trashed. When they drive off the driver's side is like new.
As a retired military guy I have always been amazed at how and M-16 with a 30 round magazine fires on full auto for about 30 seconds. Cyclic rate is 750 rounds per minute but these guys fire hundreds of rounds out before (if ever) they change a magazine.
Bad Rat 414 Aug 25th, 06, 2:45 PM I've done a smoky burn out in the woods before. I got stuck in the dirt and it get spinning until I hit clay, then the smoke show started.
On another note. The last Terminator movie the bad Terminator took control of a police car and somehow drove it remotely. There's nothing to move the steering wheel in the car that is computer controled.

Not just that, but i've played the violin for about 13 years - so anytime i see someone playing an instrument i'm always looking to see how well they fake it. sometimes they do a decent job. other times... well, let's just say they probably don't even know what instrument they're holding in their hands.:clonk:
