hey all,
im having a hella of a time trying to remove the rear glass, im using the wire method and pulling it back and forth but to no avail. i use the same method on the windshield with no problem. it seems that the seal on the rear glass is underneath the window and now around the sides like the windshield, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I jsut removed both my front and rear glass about a week ago... I tried the wire thing also but it just frustrated me.
I ended up using a flat blade that was very flexible... like a putty knife... it worked just fine. From past experience... do NOT try to lift the glass out before it is completely free from the adhesive... it WILL break or chip. Have help lifting it out because - while it is not really very heavy.. it is awkward to handle.
Or, call a professional 'on the road windshield replacement' company and they can do it for you - especially if you promise them that they will be the ones to re-install the glass when you are finished.

Go to a tool store, such as harbor freight, they sell a $5 tool made just for this. We call it a "cold knife" its basically an L shaped blade attached to a handle with another handle you pull on. Just make sure its really sharp and go slow.

Just a note, the rear glass is tempered and not easy to break. The windshield is a whole different animal being safety plate. The "cut out knife" you have discribed is not very good for the windshield. Yes you can cut them out with it, but the chance of cracking the windshield is MUCH higher than the back glass.

I concur. graemlins/thumbsup.gif This tool works like a dream compared to other methods.

Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. Even being as careful as possible, mine cracked after cutting about 2 inches!! graemlins/angry.gif

I also did mine in the sun when it was hot... the sealant was slightly 'soft' or workable... maybe that is why I didn't break anything. I figure that I will end up breaking both the front and rear before I get them reinstalled because I will either hit them with something or someone will knock them over.
