What is the correct black for the grill on a 71SS? Is the whole grill painted black or just the inner part of the grill? What is the proper prep for the plastic, because the grill I have on right now is starting to peel. Thanks!!

I think it's a satin black. I plan on painting mine completely. Once you put the stainless trim pieces back on, it looks pretty good. I'd definetly order the Year One plastic paint and prep solution.

It should be semigloss black, or satin.
Just the center sections should be painted, the outer edges should be silver.

I just finished mine.. wish I had the digital camera http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif.. Anyhow, the outer edges are argent silver and the horizontals are satin black. Not Flat. The alcoves are also black ( the places where the screws are). The chrome does cover most (70%) of the silver but it shows when you open the hood and look down and is quite noticible with the chrome on. Its a PITA to tape off but well worth it. Paint the whole thing silver first... It should already be the correct shade if you have a new one.
