Hey guys i was hopong you could help me out. My driveshaft rubs on the tunnel when i hit a bump with a pass. in the car with me. How can I fix this, air shocks(not to excited about those), are bag (in the back p.s. coil spring) or how about this I have heared something about changin the pinion angle to help correct this problem. I guess i could raise the back end up a bit but thats obsured :D i like my stance of course I guess I could always ride by myself but thats no fun either. I am eager to hear how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

How low is it? Unless you've got a bigger driveshaft, or the car is very low, you shouldn't have this problem. Do you have the rubber bumpstop on the frame above the pinion? How much clearance do you have between the pinion and the snubber?

no i dont have a large driveshaft and its not real low but low maybe about .5 or .75 of an inch above my 15 inch rallys and no i do not have the bump stops and just out of curiosity what is a snubber? thanks for the quick response.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the 66/67's used a pinion bumpstop. I think the bumpstops are on the top of the axle tube between the spring mounts and the lower control arm mounts. If they are missing, you will see a flat area with a slot in it where the rubber goes. Honestly, unless your car is much lower than stock or the springs/shocks are junk, you should not be near the bumpstops anyway. If the suspension is all good with no issues, I would also check your tranny mount.

just out of curiosity what is a snubber?...just another name for the pinion bumpstop. I'm not as familiar with the little details of the earlier chassis, so TW may be right, and your car wouldn't have one.

hey guys thanks for the replies i checked and i do have the rubber stops whatever they are called so now what, where is what i was thinking, how about an airbag in the coil spring, since it will help me when i race(a few times a year) will it help the car from sitting lower when someone is in the car. let me know what you guys think. thanks

Ryan, instead of masking the problem with airbags, etc., why not just replace the rear springs? They are relatively cheap and no air lines to deal with. Just a thought (and MHO). Unless your car launches hard and also lifts the right rear wheel, you likely won't need the airbags at the track.

i could change my rear springs but they are brand new not saggy they are a 3 inch drop or so i think a little more but it sits really good and LOW and not that my car launches hard or anything but i thought i could help with traction a bit and help the rear from lowering even more when someone is in the car, just a thought from my overactive brain :)
