I have been using the 3M clean and strip discs on my angle grinder that Mrtinsr recomended and they work good for getting to bare metal but I also saw the bristle discs That are recomended for getting to bare metal (@Eastwoodco.com) they are plastic or hard rubber and look like big brush bristles, they come in different colors for grit size. Has anyone used both of these? Which ones are better? Should I get the 50 or 80 grit if I will be primming over afterwards? The clean and strip black sponge type work great but don't last that long would it be worth the $$$ to get set up for the bristles?

I have used the white, yellow, and green bristle discs on my die grinder. They can really remove some metal. If you want them to remove paint only you need to be careful!!

Thanks Troop!
That is just what I needed to know I will stick with the clean and strip pads then!

You can push as hard as you want and you still get a dull 80 grit finish perfect for primmer!

The bristle discs are a pretty slick unit. I think they remove paint, rust faster then the clean-n strip wheels, I really like them and have not seen where they remove METAL

Can I start primming after using the bristle wheel or do I need to sand a little?

Do they last longer than the clean&strip discs?

Zach I think they last longer. I like both products, I use them at diff times, one is better then the other in ceratin areas. For the bristle disc I have green.

YES you should still sand the area that will get primed. It shouldnt matter if its gonna be etch primer, epoxy or primer surfacer Id sand the area with 180-220 on bare metal.

Sanding the area with a DA and 180 will just give me nice warm feeling inside. Is it something that is really needed, maybe not buy why chance it?...Eric

Will do Eric graemlins/thumbsup.gif Did you know eastwoodco.com has all these wheels and discs that are 4.5 or 7 inch Dia and made to fit right on your angle grinder of that size? Whith power and size like that, Who needs a messy sandblaster?

sevt,
Put a 2" roloc green disk on a high speed die grinder and it will definately remove metal. I use them on a regular basis to remove pitting on chassis parts. I use the yellow and white as a first step when removing deeper scratches in stainless trim prior ro sanding and polishing.
