I am painting the firewall and have swapped out the heater core. The old sealant around the heater box was a black putty of some sort and was hard and dried out! It looks like the same stuff that I need to replace around the kik vents, can anyone tell me what its called or where to find it? Thanks!

Use some sort of non-hardening caulk, like pipe dope. THat's what all the resto houses sell.

I've used black RTV sealer on both with good luck. The A/C box will use almost a whole tube.

Probably not correct for a points resto.

Good luck

It's called "Strip Caulk" and is a HAVE TO have product in your garage. The 3M number is 08578. You use around the bolt holes on things like quarter panel extentions or tail lamps where the studs come into the truck and you need to seal them from water. You REALLY NEED it for MANY things. Read my "Basics of panel alignment" and you will even see there when aligning latches!
