: Trunk pans
I'm not sure what it's called, but does anyone know if the sheet metal that runs from the trunk floor pans over the rear axle tubes and differential and down behind the rear seat in a '70 is being re-pop'ed by anyone?
I can't seem to find it in any of my aftermarket catalogs.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!

Randy Mosier Oct 1st, 03, 7:13 PM That's the one that transitions into the rear floor pan. No, it's not being reproduced. You're going to have to find a donor car with one that's still intact and cut it out of there. How bad is it?
LS_5 Oct 2nd, 03, 11:27 AM Thanks, Randy. I was afraid of that. :(
It's not good. A previous owner used bondo or something, where it meets the wheel wells and than spatter painted over it. Looks like there's a couple inches of bondo on one side of the shelf. There could be more areas once I get the rear seat out.
The good news is that the wheel wells are in good shape, so I assume they were replaced at some point. I guess since he couldn't get a good piece for that area, he made do with what he had.
Thanks for the info! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Update.
I was able to find a good piece out of a donor '70 at Sundell's in Slippery Rock, PA. Runs from the back edge of the trunk floor pans forward over the rear axles, down behind the rear seat back (including the package tray brace), under the rear seat to just forward of the rear seat brace (including the brace, which I understand isn't re-pop'ed, either).
There's a couple minor issues with it but it should work out great and make repairs alot easier than having to cut out bad areas and blend in new metal.
I think Eric (SevtChevelle) first directed me to Sundell's. Norm is a great guy and between his yard here in PA and his son's place in North Carolina, they seem to have, or can get just about anything.
Just thought I'd share the info for anyone who's having the same problem finding parts that aren't re-pop'ed.

sevt_chevelle Oct 5th, 03, 11:33 AM Andy, glad to hear that Sundells had the part. Done business with them many times and each time it was a pleasure.
Did you ever find that rear taillamp piece, piece rear bumper bolts too?
Eric
Yes I did. In fact, I got it at Sundell's before I got this piece. Both pieces came from the same '70 body Norm had here in PA. He had just decided to start cutting it up. I got the first 2 pieces from it. He had the body whole hoping to sell it as a complete unit, but it didn't work out.
For once I was in the right place at the right time!
Thanks again for the lead! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Let's put it this way, Norm has a bowtie on his mailbox - no name, just a bowtie!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
They are Chevy, first and foremost. They may carry other GM, too. I'm not sure. Give 'em a call and check it out. I did talk to a guy there who was looking for a piece of a GTO.

It's a salvage operation for sure here in PA. I'd bet NC is the same. They specialize in muscle cars of our era.
Norm's card says: "Parting out over 400 62-87 GM Muscle Cars". "The One Stop Shop - Used, New, Reproduction"
You can walk around and find something, or I know you can call. I'm sure Eric must have called from Iowa.
Hope that helps.
