i just had a shop install a limited-slip carrier with 3:73 in my elcamino, now its making a chatter sound only when i come to a stop and just let off the brake, i took it back to the mechanic and i could not make the chatter come back murffys law. he did say that my axles looked worn.
well i took the tires, drums off and pulled in and out and it clicked about a 1/8, but then i grabbed them and they move up and down and back and forth
about a 1/16 or so, should they do that or is there something else going on.

Posi rear ends do chatter some, especially when turning. My wife thinks something is wrong with my 67 when it does it can't convince her otherwise. But some chatter sometimes is normal. Jb

Was this an Auburn posi? If it is then you need to put another bottle of Ford limited slip additive in it. If the axles move up and down then you have a problem. If they just move in and out a little then they should be all right.
