Would anyone happen to know the correct part # for the rod that goes from the swivel to the steering column on a 70 4-speed, is it the 2889 or 2888 rod? Any help is appreciated.

For 1969 it is 2888, don't know if 70's are the same.

Both part #s are used in 1970 for 4 speed transmissions. 2888 was used in cars with Saginaw 4 speeds and 2889 was used in Muncie equipped cars for the swivel to steering column.

Glad it has been corrected in the next post as I was looking at the "three speed manual" page in the assembly manual :clonk:

I just came in from the garage. I have rod # 2889 and a muncie 4 speed. I tried this rod every way I could and it will NOT fit on my 70 SS. I dont get it. Someone above me said this rod is for muncie and 2888 is for saganaw from the pivit to the steering hook. Its not. There is no way no how its going on. I dont think Im doing it wrong but I did try it every way I could. From the steering hook to the pivit, why would that be so different between 4 speeds? It seems to me that the different one would be from the pivit to the trans. This bites. I guess I will have to buy a new set up to get it right. I would like to hear how the original poster made out. alldunn71@aol.com I need a complete set up for a muncie if anyone has one. Shipping zip is 14226. Jay
