Sounds like he's talking about NCP 250, it's a very good filler primer. Here is a pic of NCP 250 (http://hobbystage.net/camaro/media.cgi?site=69lemansii&folder=*&group=2&page=*&id=1065917472-002746). I consider it red oxide, my wife calls it purple.

70isfine, Id bet its one of the NCP primers, like mentioned before I believe the number is NCP250. The NCP series are what PPG CLAIMS corrosion resisant or DTM primers and are ISO free.

When we switched from S-W to PPG last winter we started using NCP272 a greenish gray kinda primer. The stuff sanded really tough, took 2 full sheets to wetsand a 01 stratus decklid  The stuff just ate sandpaper. It smells like you just dipped your whole entire head into a vat of elmer's glue smelt like that for days!!

The biggest turnoff we had with the NCP primers was dieback problems. The areas RIGHT under the primer would die back. Did this also when mixed as a sealer, if you spotted the sealer die back on the sealed area and the rest of the panel would be ok. Asked the rep about this and he said that primer is prone to dieback. Once we used up the 2 gallons switched to K36 and yet to have any problems like we had with NCP.
But I will say it does fill very good better then k36...Eric

I know what you mean about hard sanding.I recently did a car that the owner supplied me with RM stuff. The 2k was so hard to sand it was like sanding the concrete floor, and i had it on the whole car. Thinking of going with PPG for my camaro project because i'm not crazy about the Dupont 4000 series 2k.Could always go with the good old uro-prime but im looking at other options, thats how i got to talking about the PPG prime with this guy. So whats the best PPG 2k?

70isfine, Dupont's uroprime is still available? I thought it got axed when the VOC rules came around, or did it get changed for the better  ? I havent used Dupont in about 3-4yrs and really liked Uroprime.

K36 is probably PPG's best seller. Its a good product, nice thing about k36 is that its a 3-1 product. Depending on how you mix it, can be used as a regular surfacer, tinted surfacer or tinted sealer. K36 sands great, sprays nice and does a good job at filling, the NCP primers I believe are a tad better at filling.

But to me the best surfacer PPG makes is K38. K38 sands as good as K36, sprays nice and has a longer potlife, K36 is only 30 mins. It fills much better then K36 and the NCP primers. I really like this primer, but it CAN NOT be tinted or used as a sealer.

Ive used K93 a time or two when used as sealer nice product, wish I could comment when applied as a surfacer. I plan on using K93 this winter on a project, plan on using K38 as surfacer then sealing with k93 tinted because K93 is clear and when tinted allows more of the tint color to come thro vs K36...Eric

Dupont has a 'New' Uroprime that is basically a 4:1 production prime. But around here they are still selling the original Uroprime. How does the K38 /k36 compare to the old uroprime?About the same?

K36 and the "OLD" uroprime are about the same, but if I had to choose between one or the other Id go with Uroprime.

But when compared with K38 Id choose K38 over uroprime. Just trying to go by memory but I think k38 sands better then uroprime and does fill better also.
Ive had nothing but GREAT results when using K38, trying to switch the shop into using K38 instead of K36, but he doesnt want to since then it would mean buying a seprate product for sealing :(
