Post some pics of your audio. No matter how simple or over the top. Just getting some ideas together.

Here's what's in my '69:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/vistavalleymedia/album?.dir=290d&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos

Cut it out of 3/8" plywood so that it fit up under the lip of the "shelf" and 2 screws are all that hold it in place. They're screwed into the center brace of the shelf. I glued some batting to the plywood then staple gunned some vinyl onto it that matched my door panels. I think I'm gonna cover the rest of the back of the cab with carpet that matches my floor. I'll hold it up with my speaker panel and double stick velcro. Any way...that's MY solution. ;)

Thanks. It was pretty simple to construct from 3/4" MDF -- just need to be careful about dimensions to ensure the volume of the box matches the recommended range for the speaker(s), and that everything is sealed up air-tight. I bought the necessary wire cups, fabric, and grills from: http://www.partsexpress.com/

I've Always Thought It Would Be Cool Build A Sub Box That Is The Exact Same Size As The Smugglers Box And Have 2 Subs Pointing Down , Like A Blow Through Into The Cab, FROM THE BED, AND HAVE THE ENTIRE BED AND SUB BOX RHINO LINED

here is a couple of speakers I added to the rear shelf with some 1/4 inch masonite from home dopey.

Very easy to do the only thing is you absolutely need to add some dynamat as the bed seems to vibrate when you crank it up.The speaker grills were originally silver I just painted them flat black so they wouldn't stand out so much.

You might reduce the vibration if you used some foam weather strip tape between the masonite and the metal that you are attaching it to.

I finally got around to adding a stand alone stereo to my elky. The stock radio just can't get loud enough to beat the big block/flowmaster sound at highway speeds. ;)

I've always had good results with Pioneer equipment so I went with Pioneers DEH-P3800MP receiver and thier "Premier" speakers and threw in thier XM tuner for those long road trips.

I did it old school style by mounting it under the dash, I can't bring myself to butcher the stock dash even though I have another one stored in my shop.

Here's the under dash mounting

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/bigjames4xl/stereo/P1000024.jpg

And the front speakers mounted in kick panels from http://www.jsclassics.com/kick_panels/chevelle_kick_panel.htm

I mounted the 6X9s in a store bought box I modified to fit uder the rear shelf with the XM reciever on the back panel brace.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/bigjames4xl/stereo/P1000019.jpg

I stuck the magnetic XM antennae to the bottom of the rear window and ran the wire under the tonneau cover channel and into the cab by way of a small grommeted and sealed hole through the panel. Not the best placement but the vinyl top limits where it can be put.

The system sounds great and will get plenty loud enough for me. Now that this is all done it's time to get busy and do something to improve the interior. It's starting to show some wear and tear from use over the last 6 years of use since it was restored to stock.

Very very similiar to what I have done. I covered the panel with some cheap black auto carpet that Kragen's had in rolls. Now I need to add a moderate amp to add a bit more low end bump. I am thinking I might seperate the Pioneer 3-way elements and run the mid/tweeter off the regular amp and run a small 200 Watt into the base sections in the rear.

It's all hooked up and working! All I can say is DAMN! This thing will flat kick you in the butt. The sound of the Infinity speakers is way better than I anticipated. They cut right through the insane base that the two 10 inch subs are pumping out. The install went pretty well, but I did need to cut out some metal behind the kick panel on the driver's side because the speaker is about an inch deeper than a typical 6 1/2 inch. Other than that, no drama at all.

I've got the same kick panels and have the same problem with the depth of the Polk speakers I am using. My car is in the shop now getting body work in preparation for paint. I discussed cutting this same piece of metal with the shop owner, and he expressed concern because that piece is there to provide reinforcement to help support the weight of the door. Our current plan is to weld in a modified support that sits deeper, to give the speaker more clearance, but still provides the support for the door. I'd be interested to hear if you've noticed any difference when opening or closing the door after cutting out the brace.

I haven't noticed anything, but thanks for the info. The structure is pretty solid, even without the brace, but I like the idea of making recessed braces to replace the ones I removed.

dscabra - Just wanted to say your Elky is gorgeous! Just checked out the photos. Really nice car bro!

Here is a photo of the panel my father and I fabbed up for the 10 inch MTX Blue Thunder subs and amp.

In this photo you can see the Rockford Fosgate component speakes in the doors. The tweeters are mounted up on the A-pillars, and the crossovers are hidden in the kick panels. The head unit is a Pioneer.
