Went to the body shop today to see my freshly painted 66 Malibu. smile.gif smile.gif It looks great (except for a couple of flaws that they have to touch up). But they painted the front bumper filler panel silver, while the rest of the car is Marina Blue. The panel was silver (and rust) when I dropped off the car (and also was not attached to the car). When I bought the car, the panel was missing, and I bought the panel used from someone - it even had a price written on it. Wasn't this panel always body color? One of the guys there (not the owner) told me that sometimes this panel was silver. I've never heard of that. Have you?

I asked them to repaint the panel body color, and they agreed to, but I'm still wondering.

I know on the ss cars it didn't matter what color the car was the panel was always argent silver.

I believe the filler panel is color coded to the vehicle 20 plus years ago my 1st car was a 66 SS and I am almost positive the filler was red, not silver

I own a '66 SS which I have owned for 23 years. When I first purchased this car it still had the original paint and interior and this filler panel was and is silver.

Thanks for the help. Sounds like some were body color and some were silver.

66SS, the picture in your link is an SS and the filler panel is body color, which, by the way, looks to be the same color as mine.

Edited: On closer inspection, it appears to be two-tone: body color below the trim and silver above the trim. Would that be correct on a Malibu?

Most of the ones I have seen would match your edited description. Body color below the mldg. argent silver above.

I spent over an hour last night searching for pictures of 66's on the internet. It seems that a few SS's had silver bumper fillers and some had two-tone, but most of the panels were body color. I think every Malibu had body color, so it seems that the SS's and Malibus were different. I'm going with body color for my Malibu.

Thanks for the replies.
