I've been struggling for months trying to figure out a smoking problem. White smoke when Hot from 1 bank.

Not Radiator fluid.

Compression on smoking bank 170, 170, 130, 170

When hot, loses total compression and smokes like a freight train.

Noticed a rocker was totally loose.

With the rocker off, the Rod plunges down 3/4" with spring action. I was told a roller rod will be solid with no spring action. If there's spring action on the rear rod a Lifter is collapsed.

Can somebody confirm this for me.

And possibly some genric procedures for replacing the lifter if confirmed?

I hope I'm on the right track here as I've been agonizing for months on a $5500 repair.

Was planning on pulling the motor this weekend thinking piston or Ring.

Thanks!

I removed the rocker next to the one in question and there is also spring compression, but only maybe 1/4" compared to the 3/4" on the other.

When I hand tightened the questionable rocker all the way down, it's way lower than the others, almost parrallel to the top of the head, a good inch lower than all the others on that side.

Taking off the other valve cover though, those rockers are as low as the quetionable one on the other side.

I realize it depends where it is on the cam lobe, but on the non problem side all of the top intake rockers are low almost level to the top of the head.

On the problem side #6 intake is low almost level with the top of the head, all the other intake rockers are at least 1" higher.

All of the Driver side intake in the same position and only the problem cylinder intake in the same position on the other side?

Am I possibly on to something here or chasing ghosts?
