: Correct Wiper Blades 67 Chevelle
grays67 Aug 16th, 06, 9:59 AM I am showing my Chevelle in my first AACA meet this October in Hershey, PA. I am coming down to the wire with the completion of the restoration. Could somone who knows what AACA judges look for regarding the correct wipers and blades? I know they are to be Trico, but is there anything the judges will look for to ensure they have the original appearance? Can someone provide me with a picture of the correct wiper arm and blade. I have come such a long way and don't want to lose any points over something as simple as wiper blades.
Thank you
Maynard, I have been busy so I just took a hasty shot of mine. My car is no show winner, but I bought it from my aunt's estate in '85 with original glass, lights and wiper blades. This was confirmed by my cousin, that those items were original. In '92 I found 2 sets of original replacement Trico 15" blades at a supplier so I bought them. After getting them I placed them along side the originals. Besides the old ones having dry rotted rubber, they were totally identical. There is an ink stamping on the replacement that apparently shows them to be manufactured in 1978.
The finish on the blades and arms is a satin brushed metal finish. The Highway Traffic Safety Act was dictating low gloss or matte finishes on these items by the '66 model year. Cars manufactured a few years earlier might have actually found these items with a bright or chrome finish.
I'll see if some time I can grab some better shots if you like. It looks like the driver's side wiper is indexed incorrectly. This must have been when the car received its only repaint in 1981/2 before I got the car. My aunt bought it in '67.
LeoP Aug 17th, 06, 10:07 PM Napa sells Vintage wiper blades, don't know how correct they would be for an AACA show. they will have to order them for you.
grays67 Aug 18th, 06, 8:48 AM Cam and Leo,
Thanks for the Post and the pic of the original. I ordered in the NAPA Classic Blades and that is why I started this post. I wasn't sure because I was so used to seeing the replacement ANCO arms and blades on Chevelles. The NAPA blades appear to be identical to the original that Cam posted. I have about 11 dollars in both blades and refills. I tried to upload a picture of it but it is apparently too large of a file. Sorry. I can email the pic if you like, unless you can tell me how to reduce the size of it.
Thanks for the replys,
Maynard
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Aug 18th, 06, 10:13 AM I have gone through the AACA ladder from JR. First Place winner to recent Grand National Senior 1st Place.. so I think I can say with relative ease that I know what I am talking about....
and what I am going to tell you is, don't sweat it... you don't need to be THAT anal with AACA, esp. about wiper blades... they will not know the difference.. TRUST ME! Focus more on the BIG Obvious issues.. like Tires, wheels, paint, fit, finish, engine Appearance of originality and don't leave floor mats in the car, don't leave license plates on the car, think about the car as it would have appeared leaving the factory..
Good luck~
grays67 Aug 18th, 06, 4:57 PM Mystery,
I was checking the AACA website and saw your grand national win just today before I saw your post. Congratulations! Thanks for the information, but it is so tough to relax about the little things. I will go with the NAPA Trico brand that I have purchased. Your expertise and CD has asisted me tremendously through this endeavor.

Chris R Aug 20th, 06, 12:33 AM I have seen blades listed for classic cars the catalog for Delco wiper blades.
james a larson Aug 28th, 06, 9:51 AM My parts CD list 3941969 14 7/8 trico for 64-66 chevelle & 65 pass. It also list 3899508 14 7/8 trico for 66-69 chevy, chevelle, & camero. And list 3779741 15 5/32 anco for 66/68 camero, chevelle. Maynard, could you e-mail me a photo of the napa blades? Thanks.
ps. the arm on the driver side of my car looks just like the one in cam's photo and has a number like 3054100 ? and can 83 stamped on it. The one one the pass side I thought was the same but on closer inspection after seeing this post, it does not have the little rivet or hole in the middle where the blade attaches to the arm. Anyone know what this arm is from?
james a larson Sep 19th, 06, 7:31 PM Just replaced to non-trico blade with an original trico blade, trico stamped on blade along with the stampings of part and pat. numbers near where the blade attaches to the arm. The non-trico blade was the anco 15 3/32" blade. Anco and pat. # stamped on the arm. Just couldn't live with two different type of blades once I knew they were different.
